Message from Our Founder
It
has been said that a plant grown in a swamp blooms and flourishes fast but it
withers fast too! The Bombay Chamber
Orchestra (BCO) has not grown in a swamp.
It has steadily grown these last 50 years with the help of our loyal
friends, donors, audience support and, of course, our dedicated orchestral
members. Today, we are proudly in a
position to entertain a loyal and steadily growing cosmopolitan audience that
look forward to the several concerts we put up in the year.
This
year we are celebrating our 51st year.
Through years of dedicated work and sacrifices, we have offered FREE
coaching in orchestral playing techniques to our city’s young talent and
encouraged the young to take up wind/brass instruments and instruments of the
string sections. We are most
grateful to our visiting guest musicians who have conducted workshops and given
individual coaching to train members and beginners, forgoing their professional
fees. Our guest conductors from U.K.,
Austria, U.S.A., Russia, Israel, Japan and Germany have most willingly given
their valuable time to work with the orchestra for 10-15 days prior to each
scheduled concert, forgoing their honorarium because they have the greatest
admiration for the love and sacrifice of the BCO’s orchestral members who attend
rehearsals at 7 a.m.!
It is unfortunate that the
city does not have a school of music. Most
of the major cities boast of schools of music and yet they have not given this
country an Indian Symphony Orchestra. The
BCO Society, in spite of the grave financial constraints, has pursued what it
sets out to do – train and teach young Indian talent and give this country a
truly INDIAN symphony Orchestra.
All this has happened not
due to one individual, but because the BCO Society has dedicated office bearers
– Mr. Bomi Billimoria, Hon. Treasurer, Mr. Alaric Diniz, Joint Honorary
Secretary and Mr. Freddy Dinshaw, who gives his time most willingly to attend to
administrative and organizational work – a team of workers who have, these many
years, worked together and made it possible for the BCO to celebrate
its 51st
year.
To
you, our audience : Thank you for
your continuing support and for attending our concerts.
