THE BOMBAY CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
(affiliated to the World Federation of Amateur
Orchestras)
Eminent MusiciansSome of the eminent musicians and musical companies who have performed with the orchestra include : pianists Walter Gieseking, Kendall Taylor, Piers Lane, Galina Vracheva and Irina Chlourindina; violinists Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Nigel Kennedy, Christina Edinger, Bijan Khadem Missagh and Leon Spierer; the Verdehr Trio, the Sadlers Wells Ballet Company and the Viennese Light Operatic Company. Visiting musicians are only too happy to work with the BCO and the society regularly receives requests from overseas musicians and conductors to come to India and perform with the orchestra. The BCO has the distinction of being the only symphony orchestra in India that performs regularly with a concert standard of performance. Cultural organization Support.Over the years, the BCO has been supported by various cultural organizations, including the British Council, the Max Mueller Bhavan and the Alliance Française. These organisations have loaned or donated instruments, provided practice facilities and sponsored visiting musicians and teachers. The orchestra receives no financial support from the Government and the opportunities that young talent in other countries enjoy are totally lacking. That so much has been achieved, in-spite of the lack of a school of music in the city, has drawn great admiration from the visiting artistes who have performed with the orchestra |
